I want to thank you for inviting me to cut the ribbon and attend the Montana Outdoor Recreation Expo at the Missoula County Fairgrounds this year. I had a blast kayaking across “Glacier Lake” and getting to meet with folks from all around Montana who came out to see all the exciting things going on in our outdoor economy.
Here in Montana, we’re blessed to be surrounded by so many natural treasures from our majestic mountains and forests to our rivers and creeks to our vast plains. Access to these public lands is a blessing and a birthright we all share. Our kids and grandkids, regardless of who they are or where they come from, have an equal right to fish in our streams or hike on the trails crisscrossing our state and national parks.
These amazing natural spaces and the access we enjoy to them have given Montana a thriving outdoor recreation industry, responsible for more than 64,000 jobs and has brought nearly $6 billion a year into our economy, especially those of our small towns and gateway communities. The Montana Outdoor Recreation Expo gave myself and many others the chance to see this industry’s growth and to help promote it for the future.
I hope you will have the opportunity to hold this Expo again next year and for years to come. Together, we can protect our public lands and grow our outdoor economy not only for ourselves, but for generations to come.
